Preschool is an exciting time for you and your child as he or she embarks on a new adventure. As a parent, you want your child to do well in school and shine as valuable information and skills are learned. Fortunately, what you do at home can help your child succeed. Make note of the following tips for your child as he or she embarks in preschool.
Implement a Healthy Routine
A healthy lifestyle is crucial for success. Set and enforce a bedtime that allows your child plenty of sleep each night and feed her a healthy breakfast each morning. Limit the amount of time your child spends playing video games and watching television and encourage her to get out and get some exercise.
Set a Daily Routine
Structure and routine help your child to know what to expect each day and can help your child thrive. For instance, you may have your child make his bed after getting up at a designated time, eat breakfast, brush his teeth, and then head out the door for school.
Make time to read to your child and also have her read aloud to you. Get excited about reading and have fun with it, such as using varying silly voices for different characters.
Talk to Your Child
Encourage your child to talk about preschool and what is going on. For instance, ask your child how he feels about the teacher and the other children in the classroom. Ask him what he most likes about preschool and what he doesn’t like. This is a great opportunity to encourage your child in his endeavors, show support, and to allow your child to express his own feelings.
Show an Interest
Extend support not only to your child, but also to your child’s teacher. Meet your child’s teacher and stay in regular contact with her via email, on the phone, or face-to-face. This allows a great opportunity to discuss any concerns that come up, as well as open the door to communication for the teacher to reach out to you with any issues or concerns related to your child.
